Municipality invests in better firefighter safety

The Municipality of North Perth has invested in new ways to improve local firefighter safety.

According to a release from the municipality, in recognition of January being Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month, North Perth has committed to further protecting its firefighters from occupational cancer risks.

A new bunker gear extractor has been purchased for the Atwood Fire Station, ensuring North Perth’s three fire stations are equipped with advanced gear cleaning systems to remove harmful toxins from personal protective equipment.

An SCBA decon/washer will also be installed at the Listowel station. This piece of equipment washes gloves, boots, helmets, masks, and air cylinders. Additionally, each of the department’s front-line apparatus will be equipped with air filtration systems.

Also, firefighters will have access to better on-scene decontamination equipment, and new PPE upgrades.
