Two charged after plow truck stolen during blizzard-like conditions

The theft of a plow truck during blizzard-like conditions in midwestern Ontario has led to charges against two Owen Sound residents.

Saugeen Shores police were notified that the white pickup truck with an attached front-plow stolen from Owen Sound was headed toward the police service's jurisdiction just after 3 a.m. on Tuesday. Officers spotted the stolen plow truck shortly after on Doll Sideroad in Port Elgin.

An attempt to stop the truck was unsuccessful and officers did not give chase, police said.

The truck was then spotted again on County Road 3 and a tire deflation device was deployed in a second effort to stop it. Despite that, the truck took off again turning onto Highway 21 in what police noted were "blizzard-like" conditions.

The stolen plow truck was found abandoned soon after and officers followed tracks in the snow to arrest two suspects.

A 39-year-old from Owen Sound is charged with six offences including flight from police, dangerous driving, driving while under suspension, failure to stop for police, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and possession of drugs.

A 43-year-old from Owen Sound is charged with possession of property obtained by crime, possession of a prohibited device, and possession of drugs.
