Man found dead after house fire in Port Elgin

A house fire in Port Elgin has claimed the life of a man.

Saugeen Shores police and firefighters were called to the burning home around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday. Fire crews were able to quickly extinguished the fire and located a man inside without vital signs.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His name and age have not been released.

Local police and firefighters, in partnership with the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal and the office of the Chief Coroner of Ontario, are probing the cause of the blaze and the death.

Investigators are expected to be back on scene Friday.

Police have not said which street in Port Elgin the fire happened on.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
