Woman rescued from burning Port Elgin home

A woman was taken to hospital after a house fire in Port Elgin on Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters with the Saugeen Shores Fire Services, along with Saugeen Shores police and paramedics, were called to the home on Bricker Street near Maple Driver just before 4 p.m.

A woman had to be rescued from the second storey. She was the only person home at the time of the blaze. She was taken to hospital for medical assessment, police said.

The cause of the fire has not been released. However, police did state it is not considered suspicious.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
