UPDATE: Barn fire closes road near Moorefield, results in "significant" loss

A barn fire that closed a local road just outside of Moorefield has resulted in a "significant loss," according to fire officials.

On February 25 at 10:30 a.m., firefighters responded to a report of a chicken barn fire northwest of Moorefield on Concession Road 8 between Side Road 6 and Robb St.

Concession Road 8 was closed between Sideroad 6 and Wellington County Road 10 for a lengthy period.

According to the Minto Fire Department, when crews arrived on-scene there was visible smoke and flame. There were approximately 40 firefighters from four stations battling the blaze. Drayton and Moorefield stations responded from Mapleton, while the Harriston and Palmerston stations came from Minto.

There were no injuries to any civilians or firefighters. The structure was a 200-foot long chicken barn and was discovered when a passerby noticed the smoke.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time but is not considered suspicious. The damage has not been determined but the barn will be a significant loss.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
