UPDATE: Wellington Road 17 near Alma reopens after serious collision

A serious two-vehicle collision early Thursday morning shut down a section of Wellington Road 17 in Mapleton Township, and the road reopened about 5 p.m.

Emergency crews responded to the crash just outside Alma at approximately 6:30 a.m. on February 27.

According to the Wellington County OPP, one of the drivers was ejected from their vehicle. Both drivers sustained serious injuries and were transported to a trauma centre for treatment.

Wellington Road 17 was closed between Wellington Road 8 and Third Line West as investigators from the West Region OPP Traffic Collision Investigation (TCI) Team examined the scene. The road is now open.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage to contact Wellington OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
