Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MP to award prestigious Coronation medals

Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound residents who have made significant contributions to the region or Canada will be presented with a coveted King Charles III Coronation medal this weekend.

Area MP Alex Ruff will be handing out the hardware at a special event at the Sydenham Campus at 1130 8th St. East in Owen Sound at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

"I am pleased to announce that I will be presenting The King Charles III Coronation Medal to select recipients," said Ruff.

Each Member of Parliament was provided with 20 medals to hand out to people in their ridings. The medal commemorates the Coronation of King Charles III as King of Canada and is the first Canadian commemorative medal marking His Majesty's coronation, which took place in May 2023. In total, the Government of Canada minted 30,000 of the medals that bear a crowned and robed effigy of King Charles III.

Ruff began accepting nominations last July with submissions due at the start of last September.

“I would like to congratulate the recipients and thank the nominators for highlighting some of the great work done by our community members," said Ruff.
