Trio of suspected shoplifters charged after brief chase

Perth County OPP officers had to chase after three people following a shoplifting incident at a Listowel business.

According to police, two men were seen leaving the unnamed businesses without paying for merchandise on Sunday. They tried to take off in a red pickup truck, but were quickly stopped by police.

The driver was arrested without incident. However, two men took off running. Police gave chase and after a short pursuit were able ot arrest the pair.

Three people, aged 28, 31, and 32, from East York are charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime.

The accused are all scheduled to appear in Stratford court in relation to the charges on April 14.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
