Human remains found at Southampton harbour

Saugeen Shores police and OPP are probing the discovery of human remains at the Southampton harbour.

Police confirmed Tuesday morning the grim discovery was made by officers in the harbour area on Sunday.

Members of the OPP underwater search and recovery unit, OPP urban search and rescue chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear response team, and OPP forensic identification services assisted the Saugeen Shores criminal investigations and drug unit in the recovery.

The remains have been sent to the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service in Toronto for a postmortem to confirm the identity.

Police offered no comment on a suspected cause of death or whether foul play is suspected.

The joint investigation is being conducted in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
