Neyaashiinigmiing resident charged after person spotted with gun

A 35-year-old Neyaashiinigmiing resident is facing gun-related charges after an incident Tuesday brought a large police presence to the area.

Police were called about a person brandishing a firearm on Farm Road in Neyaashiinigmiing just before 8:30 a.m.

Members of the Neyaashiinigmiing Police Service, Grey Bruce OPP, Grey Bruce major crime unit, West Region emergency response team, West Region canine unit, and OPP aviation unit quickly responded. Residents in the area were told to stay inside and lock their doors.

Police searched a home where an undisclosed number of firearms were seized.

A 35-year-old was arrested and charged with firearm-related offences, police announced on Thursday. That individual was held pending a bail hearing at the Owen Sound courthouse.

No injuries were reported during the incident and the shelter in place order was lifted Tuesday afternoon.
