Man charged in 'smash and grab' robberies in Hanover

A 38-year-old Brockton man is facing charges after what police called "smash and grab" style break-ins at a pair of Hanover businesses.

According to Hanover police, the break-ins at the unnamed businesses happened overnight Thursday.

Investigators determined a lone man smashed the front doors of the businesses and stole items before taking off.

A Brockton man was arrested in connection with the break-ins. Some of the stolen property was found and undisclosed evidence seized, police said.

The man was to appear for a bail hearing Thursday.

The incident has prompted Police Chief Christopher Knoll to remind business owners to always ensure security alarms are in working order and activated prior to leaving for the day. He added it is also importance to maintain surveillance equipment.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
