Snowy, icy conditions slow morning commute

Lake effect snow caused some slow downs across parts of midwestern Ontario on Tuesday.

The lake effect snow began falling Monday afternoon and continued overnight in Grey and Bruce counties. It has left roads slick and snow covered in spots.

Highway 21 between Bruce Road 25 and Bruce Road 40 south of Port Elgin had to be closed around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday due to a two-vehicle collision. South Bruce OPP asked drivers to avoid the area while emergency crews are on scene. The roadway has since reopened.

There were also a few school bus cancellations and delays in Grey-Bruce and Huron-Perth. The full list can be found on the CKNXNewsToday.ca closures page.

Conditions are expected to improve in time for the afternoon commute, according to Environment Canada.

The national weather agency ended a weather advisory for Grey and Bruce counties around 8:30 a.m.
