Bluewater council suggests new home for Bayfield Food Bank

Council for the Municipality of Bluewater has another idea for a permanent home for the Bayfield and Area Food Bank.

Reporting our of closed session at Tuesday's meeting, council passed a unanimous motion to direct the CAO to engage the Food Bank about the lease for 2 Jane Street, which is currently a Public Works shed.

The Food Bank needs a permanent home after the Bayfield Lions Club was sold to make room for a new medical practice.

Right now, the Food Bank is operating out of three dressing rooms in the Bayfield Arena, but will need to be out by September when hockey starts back up.

Because the discussion involved disposition of municipal lands, council was able to hold it in closed, so it's unclear why this property was seen as fitting to meet the Food Bank's requirements.

The Food Bank has been exploring getting a mobile unit to serve as a future home, which was quoted to cost over $200,000.

Members of the Food Bank have yet to respond to a request for comment about the potential new space.
