Damage caused to the Durham Street Bridge construction platforms by this spring's flooding should not delay the overall project significantly.
County council received an update on Thursday from Engineering Manager Ryan Errington, who said they were still on track to complete the project later this year.
The platform underneath the bridge was damaged by debris during the March 17 flooding event and the project was temporarily placed on hold. The bridge was closed for a few days as well.
Work has resumed since then.
Brockton Mayor Chris Peabody said it was a reminder of how important it was for Walkerton businesses that the bridge stayed open during construction.
"When the bridge was closed, many of the store owners did report their sales were down quite significantly, so this option of keeping the one lane open certainly has allowed our downtown to continue to thrive," he said. "Thanks very much to the whole road staff."
In the report, Errington wrote that the project remains on budget. While there was an expense to reinstate the platform spans, there was enough contingency built into the existing budget to cover those costs.
Workers will continue to repair of the south half expansion joint, as part of Phase 1 of the project. Weight restrictions will be reassessed upon the completion of Phase 1.
Phase 2 will follow immediately after and is expected to be wrapped up in late 2025.
