Dozens of new measles cases in Midwestern Ontario

The number of measles cases is growing in Midwestern Ontario.

Public Health Ontario reported 33 new cases between April 29 and May 6 in Huron Perth for a total of 175 cases between October 28, 2024, and May 6, 2025.  This comes on top of 21 cases added the week of April 23 to April 28.

 Grey Bruce saw 14 new cases over the past week, for a total of 35, on top of 11 new cases reported the prior week.  

In all, Ontario reports 1,440 confirmed and probable cases, with  1253 of those cases in unimmunized individuals.

The outbreak has seen 101 people hospitalized in Ontario, and eight needed treatment in the ICU.  There have been no fatalities from the measles during the Ontario outbreak.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
