South Huron resident charged after reported theft of 45,000 chicks

Huron County OPP have laid charges in a 2023 case involving the reported theft of 45,000 chicks from a South Huron farm.

And the charges have been laid against the farmer who reported the theft.

Initially, 30,000 chicks were believed to have been stolen overnight on April 19–20, 2023, but that figure was later revised. The loss was valued at over $139,000.

Following a lengthy investigation, police charged a 41-year-old from South Huron with fraud over $5,000 and public mischief. They were arrested May 6, 2025 and released with a court date in Goderich set for May 26.
