Preliminary hearing set for Holmesville youth charged with murder

The trial for the Holmesville youth charged with the first-degree-murder of a young girl will heard by a judge alone.

Robert Morris, defence lawyer for the youth, made the selection in Goderich court Wednesday. The youth appeared virtually from a detention facility, while their father appeared in court in person.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 20, with a return date set for July 17.

The setting of a date was slowed as both teams waited for a psychiatric and psychological review of the youth to be completed.

The Crown confirmed in court Wednesday that it has received the report.

The youth was charged with first degree murder on July 3, 2024.
