A dedicated local fundraiser has once again rallied the community for a cause close to his heart.
Peter Carter of Teeswater is celebrating a major milestone this year, having raised a total of $12,213.75 for the 2025 IG Wealth Management Alzheimer Walks in Grey/Bruce and Huron/Perth.
Carter began his fundraising efforts on March 3 with a personal goal of $10,000. Thanks to the generosity of his donors, he reached that target in just a few weeks.
This Saturday, Carter’s wife, Jo-Ann Carter, will take part in the Huron/Perth Walk in Wingham, while Peter will join walkers at Sulphur Springs in Hanover.
With this year’s total, Carter’s fundraising grand total now sits at an impressive $137,323.75, raised over 14 years through events like crokinole tournaments, special draws, and plenty of door-to-door canvassing.
“My donors in Grey/Bruce and Huron/Perth must be congratulated for reaching deep into their wallets to achieve my success,” said Carter. “If you want to raise money for charity, just knock on doors like I have for 14 years. You’ll be rewarded many times over by the many charitable people in your community.”
The Alzheimer's Societies of Grey-Bruce and Huron-Perth continue to rely on local fundraising to support essential services for people living with dementia and their families.
Carter began walking in memory of his good friend, Doug Kennedy of Teeswater.
Over 650,000 Canadians live with dementia, and that number is expected to rise to 1,000,000 by 2030.
