High levels of air pollution are possible this afternoon.

An AIR QUALITY WARNING is in place due to the possibility of deteriorating air quality. Hot and sunny conditions are expected to cause increasing ground-level ozone concentrations this afternoon. Moderate risk AQHI values are expected throughout the day with the potential of short-term high risk AQHI values in the afternoon.

When air pollution levels are high, everyone should limit time outdoors. Consider reducing or rescheduling outdoor sports, activities and events.

You may experience mild and common symptoms such as eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches or a mild cough. More serious but less common symptoms include wheezing, chest pains or severe cough. If you think you are having a medical emergency, seek immediate medical assistance.

People more likely to be impacted by outdoor air pollution, including people aged 65 and older, pregnant people, infants and young children, people with an existing illness or chronic health condition, and people who work outdoors, should reduce or reschedule strenuous activities outdoors and seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms.

The Municipality of Arran-Elderslie will be hosting a Goods Exchange Day.A media release from the municipality shares that the event will be held on Saturday, May 31. Goods Exchange Day is a community-wide event to "promote reducing and reusing materials," according to the media release.Residents are encouraged to set out usable and unwanted household items near the curb or at the end of the driveway for others to claim and reuse. The municipality suggests that items like furniture, clothing, books, tools, sporting goods, toys, doors, windows, sinks, and other household goods are great to set out.Anything set out for the event should be tagged with a visible "FREE" sign.
