Arrest made after counterfeit currency investigation

A 34-year-old from Meaford has been arrested and charged after police completed a counterfeit currency investigation.

According to Grey Bruce OPP, police began investigating after several recent instances of counterfeit currency being used in the area.

Just before noon on June 21, officers conducting bicycle patrols in downtown Meaford saw a man, who was known to police, riding a bicycle on the sidewalk along Nelson Street West.

Officers attempted to talk to the man, who then took off on his bicycle. The man then abandoned his bike and ran into a wooded area where he was later taken into custody. Police also seized an air pistol from the suspect.

A 34-year-old Meaford man faces numerous charges including assaulting a peace officer, possessing counterfeit money ,and possession of property obtained by crime.

The accused was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing on June 24, 2025, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound.
