GBPH issues drug alert over local heroin

Grey Bruce Public Health has issued a drug alert after a recent sample of local heroin revealed "unexpected results."

According to the local health unit, a cream/beige coloured powder being sold as heroin contained approximately 50 per cent crystal meth.

As part of the alert, Public Health is advising people who use drugs to go slow, take extra caution if mixing, and use only new supplies and avoid sharing supplies.

People who use are also reminded that the National Overdose Response Service, can be reached by calling or texting 1-888-688-6677.

A NORS operator will stay on the line with the person while the drug is used and in the event the person becomes unresponsive, NORS will call 911 to ensure help arrives.
