Three people charged in $10K drug bust in Southgate

More than $10,000 worth of drugs and five prohibited weapons were seized during raids at multiple residences in the Southgate area late last month.

Grey Bruce OPP launched an investigation into suspected drug trafficking in the region in May. As a result of the probe, officers with the community street crime unit, along with members of the OPP West Region and Central Region tactics and Rescue units, emergency response teams, and canine unit, searched the homes last Friday.

Officers turned up 65 grams of suspected cocaine, 28 grams of suspected heroin, 10.5 grams of suspected methamphetamine, five prohibited weapons/devices, including an over-capacity handgun magazine, suspected drug trafficking paraphernalia, and approximately $550 in Canadian currency.

A stolen motorcycle valued at roughly $5,500 was also seized during the searches.

The estimated value of the drugs found is $10,300, which police said represents a significant disruption to the local drug trade.

Three people were arrested in connection with the investigation.

A 43-year-old Dundalk man and a 39-year-old Dundalk woman are charged with seven offences including possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.

A 38-year-old Dundalk woman is charged with one count of possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.

Two of the accused have been released from police custody and are to reappear in Owen Sound court on July 24. The 38-year-old is scheduled to be in Owen Sound court on Wednesday.
