Police investigating counterfeit cash attempt in Meaford

Grey Bruce OPP are asking for the public’s help identifying two people connected to an attempted counterfeit transaction in Meaford.

Police say the pair entered the Circle K store just after midnight on July 2, 2025 and tried to pay with fake $20 bills. The clerk recognized the bills as counterfeit and refused the sale. The individuals then paid using real money.

A recent counterfeit currency investigation in Meaford resulted in one arrest.

It’s unclear if they knew the bills were fake. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the OPP or Crime Stoppers. Businesses are reminded to stay alert when handling cash.
