Police report tragic drowning of child near Dundalk

A tragic incident in a private pond near Dundalk has claimed the life of a young child.

Grey Bruce OPP say emergency crews were called to a farm near Southgate Road 26 near Proton Station.

Police and the other first responders were told a four-year-old child went missing while swimming with family members in a pond on the property.

The search for the child was aided by the OPP Emergency Response Team, OPP Canine Unit, and fire and emergency services from Owen Sound, Hanover ,and Southgate

Grey Bruce OPP have confirmed that on the morning of Monday, July 14, the child's body was recovered from the pond by the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
