Charges laid following 'suspicious' Collingwood blaze

Charges have been laid following an investigation into a recent fire in Collingwood that police deemed suspicious.

The fire happened at a commercial property located in the east end of Collingwood early in the morning of July 7.

Fire crews initially deemed there was nothing out of the ordinary with the blaze, which originated in a storage shed at the northeast corner of the property and caused an estimated $1,000,000 in damage.

However, after reviewing surveillance footage, fire officials notified police that suspicious activity may have led to the fire. After investigating, police stated the fire was suspicious and that a suspect was being sought.

Police have confirmed that on July 16, the Barrie Police Service located and arrested a suspect. A 34-year-old has now been charged with arson.

The accused was held in custody by the Collingwood OPP pending a bail hearing on July 17, 2025. If anyone has any other information related to this case, contact Collingwood/Blue Mountains OPP or Crime Stoppers.
