Driver killed in single-vehicle crash near St. Marys

Stratford police are probing the cause of a serious crash southwest of St. Marys that claimed the life of a woman.

The single vehicle collision happened on Road 139 at Line 2 in the Township of Perth South just before 7 a.m. on Monday.

Investigators have determined a pickup truck was heading south on Road 139 and was weaving within the lane when it suddenly veered off the road, hitting a tree. The woman driving was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle, police said.

A 28-year-old woman from West Perth was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been released.

The police collision reconstruction unit was called in, and while investigators were on scene, Perth Road 139 between Whalen Line and Line 4 was closed. The road reopened just after 3 p.m. Monday.

Police are asking for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to call them at 519-271-4141 extension 2.
