Police charge third person in recovered stolen property case

A third person has been charged after police recovered $106,000 in stolen property recently in Melancthon Township.

The Grey Bruce OPP worked with the Dufferin County OPP, as well as the Dufferin and Grey Bruce Community Street Crime Units, in recovering $106,000 in stolen property from a a property in Melancthon Township on July 16.

Many of the stolen items were tools and items reported stolen from a recent break and enter in Meaford, as well as a stolen 18-foot flatbed trailer and other items. Numerous break-in tools and devices were also seized.

Police arrested a 51-year-old from Southgate and a 44-year-old from Shelburne when the search warrant was initially issued. Now, through further investigation, police have arrested a 49-year-old from Fergus in relation to the case.

The latest accused was charged with possession of break-in instruments, three counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and two counts over $5,000.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on August 21 to answer to the charges.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
