Saugeen Fire to open surf rescue station

Saugeen Fire and Emergency Services says it will launch the first surf rescue station on Saugeen Beach next year, to provide faster response times for marine incidents.

The new station will be located right on the beach, in the building that once held the Crowd Inn restaurant.

The Fire Service says it is solely funding the renovations at this time, but will be looking for the support of visitors, community members, and local leadership as it works toward building the full-time unit.

The beach has been the responsibility of SFN since 2023, when courts recognized the nation's claim to an approximately 2.2 kilometre stretch of the beach north of Main Street in Sauble Beach.
