All Huron County beaches deemed safe for swimming

Swimmers rejoice!

All Huron County beaches have once again been given the all clear for swimming.

Heading into the weekend 12 of the region's 14 beaches were deemed unsafe for swimming due to high levels of E.coli bacteria in the water.

The beaches - Amberley Beach, Ashfield Township Park, Port Albert, Sunset Beach, Rotary Cove Beach, St. Christopher's Beach, Goderich Main Beach, Blacks Point Beach, Pier Beach, Houston Heights, St. Josephs, and Hay Township Park - were retested with results on Saturday showing bacteria levels had dropped back into the range considered acceptable under provincial guidelines.

Huron Perth Public Health tests the waters at area beaches each week throughout the summer.

Public health officials remind that water quality can change from day-to-day or depending on the weather and other conditions. People should avoid going for a swim at the beach within 48 hours of heavy rainfall, if the water is so cloudy that you cannot see your feet at waist-deep, or if there is a large number of birds or algae in the water.
