Tips from the public lead OPP to alleged dangerous, impaired driver

Charges have been laid after a vehicle was seen, speeding, passing unsafely, and accelerating aggressively in Flesherton and Markdale.

Grey Bruce OPP received numerous complaints about a silver sedan heading north on Highway 10 being driven in a reckless manner just after 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Witnesses told police the car was travelling at excessive speeds, making unsafe passes, and veering across the yellow line.

Police found the vehicle at a gas station in Markdale where it was then seen being driven erratically, swerving and accelerating aggressively into traffic. Officers attempted to pull the car over, but it did not stop and took off at a high rate of speed, police said.

The suspect vehicle was located again a short time later parked on Main Street West in Markdale.

A 25-year-old Oakville resident was arrested and charged with dangerous driving, driving while impaired by alcohol and drugs, driving with an open container of liquor, and failure to stop for police. The accused is scheduled to appear in Owen Sound court in relation to the charges on September 18.
