The Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) is continuing its multi-year project to restore the concrete at Conestogo Dam, a key part of the ongoing maintenance program for the watershed.
The work, aimed at repairing wear caused by weather and ice, requires water levels in the reservoir to be drawn down, limiting boat launch access for the remainder of the season.
Beginning Saturday, August 23, 2025, the West (shorter) boat launch at Conestogo Lake Conservation Area will be out of service. The East (longer) boat launch will remain open until Labour Day, Monday, September 1. However, the increased drawdown of water levels starting September 2 means this access point will also close shortly after the holiday.
Boaters and cottagers are being advised to remove their boats before September 2. The GRCA noted that weather conditions and downstream flow requirements could affect the drawdown schedule. Any changes will be communicated through the project webpage and notifications.
In addition, one lane of Wellington Road 11 is currently closed to accommodate the construction. Cottage owners around Conestogo Lake are also being encouraged to keep a close watch on their properties throughout the project period.
According to the GRCA, these repairs are part of ensuring the long-term safety and functionality of the dam.
