Stratford police search for driver who offered teen a ride

Police in Stratford are looking to speak with a man who allegedly offered a 13-year-old girl a ride.

The incident happened at the school bus stop near the intersection of Orr Street and McCarthy Road before 8:30 a.m. on either September 2 or 3, Stratford police said.

The girl declined the offer and the unknown man left without any other interaction.

The incident was reported to police on September 8.

According to police, the man is described as being of East Indian descent, middle aged, and was driving a dark-coloured vehicle. He is believed to have been alone in the vehicle.

The interaction has prompted police to issue a reminder to parents about teaching children to be street-wise.

"Parents are encouraged to speak with their children about the danger of accepting rides, and any other items, from strangers," police said in a statement released on Tuesday.

Anyone with information about the man or who has experienced a similar incident is asked to call police at 519-271-4141.
