Mother, baby followed while walking in Hanover

A 41-year-old man is facing charges after a woman walking with her baby in Hanover was allegedly followed.

Hanover police were called about the incident last Thursday.

Investigators determined the woman was repeatedly followed by a man as she walked along several streets in a residential neighbourhood.

A suspect was identified and arrested shortly after. A 41-year-old man of no fixed address is charged with criminal harassment and three counts of breach of probation. He was released from custody with strict conditions, including a prohibition from entering the Town of Hanover, and had a future court date in Walkerton.

The suspect and the woman were not known to each other, police said.

According to Hanover police Chief Chris Knoll, the accused was then arrested the day after his release by a neighbouring police service for "property crimes and held for a bail hearing."

He was later released again, and a previous release condition not to enter the Town of Hanover was lifted and no longer imposed.

On Monday, the man was arrested again after officers were called to a Hanover business, where a man was reportedly yelling at staff and customers. He is now additionally charged with mischief and four counts of breach of probation.
