Elderly driver killed in two-vehicle crash near Wiarton

Highway 6 north of Wiarton has reopened after a fatal collision involving a water truck and a passenger vehicle on Thursday morning.

Grey-Bruce OPP say the driver of the passenger vehicle, a 90-year-old from Lions Head, was pronounced dead.

According to police, the truck was fully engulfed when they were called to the scene around 11:30 a.m.

Since then, members from the OPP Technical Collision Investigation team and West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement team have been brought in to assist with the investigation.

As a result, additional road blocks were placed at Bruce Road 9 and Mar Sideroad, Highway 6 and Greig Settlement Road, as well as Red Bay Road and Huron Road.

All of the roads were reopened shortly before 9 p.m.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
