Society of United Professionals donates to local food banks

The Society of United Professionals Bruce Local, also known as The Society, has donated over $6,000 for local food banks.

The Society says funds have been split equally among the Kincardine Food Bank, the Saugeen Shores Food Bank, and the Saugeen First Nation Food Bank.

A fundraising campaign began in April and ran until Labour Day. Money was raised through union t-shirt sales and contributions from other local unions as part of the Society’s “Union Strong” and “Canada United” campaigns.

With many in the area struggling to make ends meet, The Society says it felt that contributing to the local food banks was crucial, with many foodbanks facing the reality of demand outweighing supply.

"It is a priority for our union to give back to the community," said Society Bruce Local Vice-President Dave Ceksters. "These food banks are a vital support for so many struggling families. We are truly grateful to everyone who pitched in to donate. Our communities are so much stronger when we pull together in solidarity with each other. We’re glad to do our part to help support these important community programs."
