Clifford farmer fined nearly $70,000 for operating unlicensed milk plant

A Huron County farmer has been fined nearly $70,000 for operating an unlicensed milk plant.

A Clifford native was convicted in Huron County Provincial Offences Court for violating the Milk Act, which requires all milk plants in Ontario to be licensed.

An investigation by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness found that an unlicensed facility was operated between May and August 2024.

The accused was tried in absentia and fined $55,000, plus a $13,750 victim surcharge, and given a two-year probation order requiring compliance with the Milk Act.
