OPP officer assaulted during arrest in Arthur

A 59-year-old Arthur man is accused of assaulting two people, including a Wellington County OPP officer.

Police were called about an altercation at a home on George Street in Arthur around 8 p.m. on Tuesday. When officers arrived, they found one person suffering from minor injuries. That person was assessed by local paramedics, police said.

While trying to arrest a suspect, one of the officers was allegedly assaulted, but was not hurt.

A 59-year-old man from Arthur is charged with assaulting a peace officer, assault, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, and failure to comply with an undertaking. The man is being held in custody pending a bail hearing, police said.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
