A West Grey man has been fined and suspended for hunting deer without a licence last winter.
The Ontario Court of Justice heard that on December 22, 2024, conservation officers started an investigation into the hunting activities of Raymond Piche of Bentinck.
Piche’s hunting licence was suspended at the time in accordance with a court order. However, a conservation officer located tree stands and cellular cameras overlooking deposited corn in proximity to Piche’s residence.
According to the Ministry of Natural Resources, the officer discovered concealed hunting equipment, including a crossbow and bolts in one of the tree stands. A search warrant was executed on the cellular game camera’s Secure Digital cards to examine the photographs.
Through the investigation, it was determined that between December 12 and December 22, 2024, Piche hunted deer without a licence.
Piche pleaded guilty to hunting deer without a licence and failing to comply with an existing court order.
He was fined $6,500 and is suspended from hunting for two years.
