SIU invokes mandate following incident after arrest in Huron County

The province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating after a man was injured after being arrested by Huron County OPP.

According to police, Huron County OPP arrested a 69-year-old man on Wednesday, March 4 at 2:30 p.m. following what the OPP called "an assault investigation."

While in police custody, police say the man required medical attention and was then taken to a local hospital.

CKNXNewsToday reached out to the SIU for further comment, and the SIU confirmed an altercation occurred between the arrested man and officers while being transferred to a cell at an unspecified Huron County OPP detachment. Police nor the SIU would confirm where the original incident and arrest occurred.

However, the SIU did confirm the man suffered "a serious injury" in response to the request for further information. The SIU also stated that three investigators have been assigned to this case.

More information will follow as it is made available following the SIU investigation.
