Guelph Owen Sound Transportation service extended

The Guelph Owen Sound Transportation (GOST) bus service will continue operating through the summer of 2026, following a joint announcement from the City of Owen Sound, Grey County, and Wellington County.

The service has been extended until August 31 with continued financial support from the Province of Ontario through the Ontario Transit Investment Fund, along with contributions from Grey and Wellington counties. The funding ensures there will be no disruption for riders who rely on the route.

GOST provides a vital connection between Owen Sound and Guelph, with stops in Chatsworth, Williamsford, Durham, Mount Forest, Arthur, Fergus, and Elora. The route serves a wide range of passengers, including workers, students and visitors, offering access to employment opportunities, education, healthcare, and community services throughout the region.

The extension follows the success of the program since its initial launch, which was funded through the province’s Community Transportation Grant Program. Officials point to strong ridership growth and responsible financial management as key factors in the decision to continue the service.

In 2025 alone, GOST recorded nearly 13,000 unique rides. Usage was highest during the summer months and showed steady growth throughout the year as more residents began using the service.

Passengers also now have easier access to trip planning, as GOST routes are available on the Transit App.

For more information about the service, residents can contact the City of Owen Sound’s Environmental Services division.
