Missing 2-year-old found safe in Perth County

A 2-year-old boy who was briefly missing in Perth County has been reunited with his family.

The youngster was reported missing from the Trowbridge area just before 6 p.m. on Monday. That led to an extensive search by Perth, Huron and Wellington county OPP officers, the OPP West Region emergency response team and canine unit, the North Perth Fire Department, Perth County Emergency Medical Services, and Huron Area Search and Rescue (HASAR). A drone and OPP helicopter were also brought in to help locate the boy.

At the same time, area residents were asked to search their properties including in outbuildings and fields.

The boy was found in a nearby cornfield shortly after 1 a.m. on Tuesday. After being cleared by paramedics he was returned to his family, police said.

They went on to thank everyone who assisted in the search efforts and supported the family throughout.

"This successful outcome is a testament to the collective efforts of all involved and reinforces the importance of the resources and partnerships available to the OPP such as HASAR when responding to complex and major incidents," Incident Commander Staff Sergeant David Sinko said in a statement.
