The Wingham and District Horticultural Society is not happy with North Huron council's decision on the next home for the local literary garden.
Members of the society brought a delegation to this week's meeting, asking them to reconsider the choice to move the Alice Munro Literary Garden to in front of the local Library.
Council voted to relocate the garden in direct opposition to a recommendation from the Horticultural Society, which said Riverside Park was a much more suitable spot for it.
Ann Inglis told council that this decision has fractured their relationship.
"The members here are quite upset to be making this presentation tonight," she told council. "We thought we had a teamwork arrangement with this town in regards to the Alice Munro Literary Garden. Instead, we find that North Huron council has taken control over the garden's location. If the town wants total decision making, then we will question our team approach of working together, and question paying for and maintaining this tourist attraction."
Inglis said the Library isn't a good fit for the garden, as the current plants like shade and that location would be too sunny. She also said it also has less space than its current home and the garden would be better suited for the park.
Members of the Horitcultural Society agreed, voting against the Library as a location at their July 8 meeting before voting for Riverside Park.
However, no members of council even moved to reconsider the original motion, forging ahead with the Library location.
