Saugeen First Nation to host human trafficking awareness town hall

A community town hall aimed at raising awareness about human trafficking is coming to Saugeen First Nation next week.

The event is being organized by Saugeen First Nation's Mino Bimaadsawin Health Centre in partnership with Grey Bruce Community Safety and Well-Being Planning.

Scheduled for Wednesday, October 21, 2026, the town hall will bring together survivors, police representatives, and community organizations to discuss human trafficking, its warning signs, and available support services.

Survivors will share their personal experiences, while police representatives will discuss trafficking trends and how to recognize potential warning signs.

In a joint news release, organizers say, "Human trafficking can affect people of all ages, backgrounds, and communities."

The event is intended to reduce stigma, encourage conversations about trafficking and connect residents with local resources.

Organizers say the initiative is part of a broader regional effort to prevent human trafficking through education, community partnerships and survivor-informed approaches.

The town hall will take place at the James Mason Recreation Centre on French Bay Road in Saugeen First Nation. Doors open at 5:30 in the evening, with a complimentary dinner before the program begins at 6.

The event runs until 9 p.m. and is free to attend, with no registration required.
