Work to get downtown Owen Sound holiday-ready begins this week.
Starting Monday, city crews will spend four mornings installing the seasonal Noma cross-street lights on 2nd Avenue East. The Christmas light installation will be done one block at a time to minimize disruptions for River District businesses and visitors.
While the city completes work on each block, that block will be temporarily closed, but all intersections from 7th Street East to 11th Street East will remain open. Pedestrian access will also be maintained, the city has reassured.
The installation schedule is as follows:
Monday October 26: 700 block of 2nd Ave. E - 6:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Tuesday October 27: 800 block of 2nd Ave. E - 6:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Wednesday October 28: 900 block of 2nd Ave. E - 6:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Thursday October 29: 1000 block of 2nd Ave. E - 6:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The Noma Lites company originally provided the holiday lights in 1957 to honour Owen Sound's 100th anniversary.
