Tankard Qualifying Comes To Wingham

Wingham Curling Club will host a big event in the new year.

The regional qualifying round of the Ontario Tankard sweeps into town on January 3 and 4. The Tankard serves as the Southern Ontario Championship.

The winning rink and runner up will move on to Dorchester for the main tournament which picks an Ontario representative for the Tim Hortons Brier in Calgary.

Some of the curlers competing include nationally ranked rinks of Pat Ferris, Joe Frans, Scott Macdonald and Wayne Tuck.

The rink of Brent Ross from Harriston and Jon St. Denis out of Listowel, who are also in the top 100, make up the local contingent.

New military crosswalk in Sarnia to be unveiled

As part of a partnership between the Sarnia Legion Branch 62 and City of Sarnia, an unveiling ceremony will be held at the corner of Christina Street and Wellington Street on Sunday, June 7, at 2 p.m.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
