Host Lakers Take Minor Peewee Great Lakes Cup In Stratford

The Huron-Perth Lakers Minor Peewee AAA's came away with a hometown championship at the Great Lakes Cup in Stratford.

Arenas in the city played host to some of the best Minor Peewee and Minor Bantam teams in the province. Whitby would win the Minor Bantam Division with a 6-0 victory over Ottawa.

Huron-Perth Minor Peewees beat West Seneca 3-2 in their first game before a 3-2 loss to Clarington. A 2-2 tie with the Soo Jr Greyhounds was enough to earn a spot in the A side quarter finals.

In the next round, the Lakers faced the Southern Tier Admirals from the Welland area, coming away with a 3-2 win.

Moving on to the semi's, the Lakers beat Rochester 7-5 for a birth in the A Final.

A local rivalry was on the ice for the final with the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs the opponent. Huron-Perth pulled away with the title on home ice after a 3-2 victory.

The Minor Bantam Lakers were not as lucky. A 2-2 record in the round robin left them in third place, just shy of a spot in the next round.
