Winterhawks Take Game One of WOAA Playoff

The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks erased a two-goal deficit in the 3rd period en route to an overtime victory to open their playoff series against the Mapleton-Minto 81's.

Andy Fracz scored shorthanded just over a minute into the extra frame, lifting Saugeen Shores to a 4-3 win in Game 1 of the WOAA Senior Hockey League "Double-A" quarterfinal series.

Head Coach Peter Roedger says it was classic playoff hockey as both teams went end-to-end in a physical battle.

He says goaltender Mitch Roulston deserves credit, as he was thrust into the starting role for Game 1 after goaltender Joe Kirkland was injured in their final regular season game.

"Mitch Roulston played fantastic in net. [There's] a lot of pressure on him and he handled everything exceptionally well and [I'm] very proud and pleased to see him get that win tonight," says Roedger.

Game 2 in the best-of-seven series goes tonight at 7:30pm in Palmerston.
