Winterhawks Regain Lead in WOAA Playoff Action

The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks nearly let it slip away, but ended up prevailing in Game 3 of their series with the Mapleton-Minto 81's.

Saugeen Shores coughed up a 2-0 lead in the second period, giving up three straight goals in just over six minutes before rallying for the 6-4 win.

Curtis Johnston scored twice, including the game winning goal with less than five minutes to play in the third period.

The Winterhawks now lead the best-of-seven WOAA Senior Hockey League "double-A" quarterfinal series 2-1.

Saugeen Shores welcomed back goaltender Joe Kirkland and forward Brent MacDermid from the injured list for Game 3 and Head Coach Peter Roedger says they did not show much rust.

"We need everyone coming in and competing as hard as they can. The injured guys, it's not easy to do that, especially in a high paced, tough game. But they both came in and excelled at their positions," says Roedger.

Game 4 in the series goes on Sunday in Palmerston.
