NHL Trade Deadline: O'Reilly Likely Stays Put

While he could be an attractive piece for any team, it doesn't look like Varna's Ryan O'Reilly will be heading out of Colorado. It seems the Avs GM may has other ideas for the 24-year-old forward ahead of the NHL trade deadline.

In a report to NHL.com, the former star centre said he has no interest in moving the core players, including current star centreman O'Reilly.

However, Sakic did say that he's had conversations with teams about several players. But says the Avalanche are not currently shopping for any short term fixes.

Sakic said he hopes to be able to re-sign O'Reilly for the long term this off season. O'Reilly is in the first year of a two-year, $12 million contract and is eligible for unrestricted free agency after next season.

Last week, Colorado coach Patrick Roy told local media that he would be surprised if a move was made that involved the Clinton born player, who is in his 6th NHL season.

So far this year, O'Reilly has 36 points in 63 games.
