Meaford Scarecrows to Spotlight Athletes

There may be a 'sports' theme to this fall's Scarecrow Invasion and Family Festival in Meaford.

Head Scarecrow Marilyn Morris says her organization took their inspiration from Governor General David Johnston.

He has designated 2015 as 'The Year of Sports', so Morris says the theme for this fall's Scarecrow Invasion should be 'Scarecrows Celebrate the Year of Sport'.

Heroes of this year’s Scarecrow Invasion will be famous athletes from across the Georgian Bay area.

Morris says those include hockey greats Charlie and John MacDonald, Olympic wrestler Brian Renkin, as well as more recent winners like track and field champion Hannah Woodhouse.
